Elle began to realize that it wasn't within her power to change the way she was living. She asked God for help, and experienced a peace she had never felt in her life before. Finally, she had found someone to take care of her. She went looking for information and pursued meetings, books and support networks. She also began to talk to people about what was really going on in her life.

"I'll never forget the first meeting; I was the only female in the room. But I left there knowing there was hope, that life could be better."

At first Elle didn't know how to get better and she continued to struggle with relapses. But she knew this time of trying to get clean was different. She began to get out of the way and let God help her. Watch Elle's Story, Part 2 to find out how Elle found hope for her addiction.

John was first exposed to pornographic materials as a pre-teen. Although he had already struggled with masturbation, access to these images caused his addiction to mushroom. Shortly after that, John, a young teenager, had his first sexual experience with a young girl close to his age. That started a long-term pursuit and objectification of women. These weren't love relationships, but a form of escape from the pain and loneliness he felt inside.

When John got married, he hoped it would be a cure or healing of some sort. But over time he got back into pornography, and eventually strayed outside of his marriage, starting a whole secret life that revolved around sexual pursuit. "It was a demeaning and terrible time. I was falling into a trap of pursuing something I thought was making me happy. That's how empty I was."

John's marriage eventually got to a breaking point. Through counseling, he realized he had issues he needed to work on, but he and his wife were not sure their marriage could be saved.

"I told God if you‚'ll make a way, I'll dedicate my life to getting healed. And that's when the process started."

John did lose his marriage over this sexual addiction. His kids stayed with him, and although he was committed to working through his issues, he was devastated by the brokenness of his home and the pain it caused his children.

It took awhile for John to find a counselor he could trust and come to the realization that he was a sex addict. But he had hit bottom and he was willing to start going to recovery meetings and be comfortable to let go of his secrets.

Mark and his wife Debbie were the picture of the perfect couple - not just that, but a Christian couple, busy and fulfilled in their lives and ministries.
