In the thick of Brenda Kay's gambling career, she was hiding bank statements, maxing out credit cards, and using money set aside for bills to fund her gambling habit. One shoe box of hidden items turned into many shoe boxes, all hidden from her husband. Finally, Brenda Kay got to the point where she was six months behind on their house note. Brenda Kay wasn't convinced she needed to attend meetings or even relinquish her control of her family's money. She wasn't even convinced that she was a gambler - just that she needed more money. Her husband forced her into Gamblers Anonymous meetings at first. But then she began gambling on the way to her meetings, and sometimes avoided the meetings altogether. Everything went wrong and Brenda became desperate, finally turning to pills to help her avoid the pain of her mistakes. After returning to her meetings - willingly - Brenda spent months in tears, sharing her failings and beginning the healing process. After years of lying, she didn't know how to live normally anymore.
